Germany Bundesliga Week 6 Previews

RB Leipzig will try to defend their position at the top of the Bundesliga table this weekend, ahead of the next round of Champions League fixtures.

Julian Nagelsmann has made a terrific start after taking charge of RB Leipzig, with FC Bayern Munich the only team to have stopped them from winning in the first five weeks of the new campaign.

FC Bayern Munich, who are chasing their eighth successive Bundesliga title, are two points behind RB Leipzig while Borussia Dortmund are among a cluster of teams on 10 points.

Leipzig v Schalke the game of the weekend

Nagelsmann's side face a massive challenge, with Schalke the visitors to the Red Bull Arena.

The Royal Blues start the weekend in fifth and while they failed to score in either meeting with RB Leipzig last season, they make the trip east on the back of three straight Bundesliga wins.

Bayern should have a fairly easy match with Niko Kovac taking his side to bottom club Paderborn, who have a single point to show for their first five games since earning promotion.

Dortmund, meanwhile, are at home to Werder Bremen after successive draws in the Champions League and the Bundesliga. Werder, who knocked Dortmund out of the DFB-Pokal last season, are mid-table after a 3-0 loss at home to leaders RB Leipzig last time out.

Cologne v Hertha Berlin an early six-pointer

At the bottom, Bundesliga action ends on Sunday afternoon with Cologne hosting Hertha Berlin.

Both teams have made a stuttering start to the new campaign and will be determined to take three points against a direct rival to boost their chances of avoiding relegation.

Hertha won both meetings between the sides last term and won at home to Paderborn last weekend to get their first victory of the campaign.

The weekend's action starts on Friday night with Union Berlin welcoming Eintracht Frankfurt to the capital. Eintracht, like Leipzig, Bayern and Dortmund, are balancing European commitments with a reshaped attack after the sales of Luka Jovic, Ante Rebic and Sebastien Haller.
